Police probe murder of civil servant

ALEXANDRA - High level police investigators are probing a murder of a top civil servant allegedly by two man whose case was heard recently by the Alexandra Magistrate Court.

Police are conducting further investigations regarding the murder of a top civil servant.

The two men suspected of his murder were remanded in custody and denied bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court

The court heard that the deceased from Midrand and one of his alleged murderers were well-known to each other. The murder occurred on 15 September this year at his home, and the suspects were arrested on 29 September after a tip-off and the analysis of cellphone records.

It is claimed that the two visited the deceased’s home and he then took them out for a meal at a nearby restaurant. Afterwards, they returned to his home and had more drinks. The co-accused, who was not known to the deceased, allegedly grabbed him by the neck from behind and the other is said to have helped to subdue him using a belt.

It is reported that they then placed him in a bathtub filled with water, presumably to stage a drowning. A post mortem indicated that he was already dead when he was placed in the tub.

It is alleged they then drove off in their car and the victim’s VW Vivo to Alexandra where the deceased’s car was set alight.

A legal expert, who does not want to be named, said their case may be transferred to the high court as one of premeditated murder and, if found guilty, they face possible life sentences.
