2010 drug case postponed to February

ALEXANDRA - A drug related case stemming from 2010 was postponed at the Alexandra Magistrate Court to February 2016 to enable further probing of the accused, a Nigerian man and a local female school teacher.

A drug-related case stemming from 2010 was postponed at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to February next year to enable further investigation of the two accused, a man and a former female school teacher. Both are out on bail.

The court heard that the two were arrested at the Kelvin home of the former school teacher, which is alleged to have been turned into a clandestine drug laboratory. Police raided the home after a tip-off from the public.

During the raid, police are said to have found two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz and Volvo presumed to belong to the two.

When police entered the house they found the windows open, a fan on and a foul smell was detected. The arrested male was allegedly wearing white overalls stained with an unknown substance suspected to be associated with drug manufacturing.

The passages were said to have had several pipes running between containers, and drums filled with a white substance.

The police are said to have found the female co-accused in one of the rooms and she confirmed owning the property.

The court is said to have asked for the white substance found in the drums to be tested to determine if it could be crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as meth, which is used to manufacture drugs and is legally controlled.

A legal expert said meth was snorted at clubs and parties and was also known as speed. It’s known to be dangerous and poisonous. In the early stage of use, it acts as a stimulant but systematically destroys the user with memory loss, aggression, psychotic behaviour and heart and brain damage.
