Emmanuel Sithole murder trial: One set free

ALEXANDRA - The four men accused of murdering Emmanuel Sithole are to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court again today.

UPDATE: 4 November, 5.45pm

One of the four accused in the Emmanuel Sithole murder trial was today freed after the prosecution closed its case.

According to his lawyer, the accused Sizwe Mngomezulu was nothing but a by-stander who witnessed the attack, rather than an active participator. This was agreed by the Magistrate and Mngomezulu was freed.

The case is on going with the other three accused continuing to stand trial.

4 November, 9.27am

It was alleged that Mthinto Bengu, Sizwe Mngomezulu, Sifundo Mzimela and a 17-year-old, who can’t be named because he is a minor, stabbed Sithole to death in Alexandra in April. All four accused pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and robbery.

Two more witnesses are said to be taking the stand next, one of whom is the doctor who attended to Sithole’s multiple stab wounds after he was rushed to hospital.

Several witnesses have taken the stand since the trial commenced, many of whom gave details of how the accused brutally robbed, assaulted and stabbed Sithole.

Updates to follow.
