Cool off in the city

JOBURG - As the temperature rises at an alarming rate, it is time to find some places to cool off in the City of Joburg.

Weather experts in South Africa have expressed concern for the people of the country and have warned them of temperatures that are set to soar well over 45 degrees – that is much higher than many South Africans have ever experienced before.

Johannesburg, the urban jungle, may not have a beach where residents may flock, but developers around the area have made sure to build some unexpected pools around the city for those who dare to venture into watery depths.

Here are three inner city pools to explore this summer:

Poolside

Poolside has been situated at 281 Commissioner Street in Maboneng for a little more than a year. It’s not just a pool – this venue serves its guests with some delicious, Italian-styled eats and great, tailor-made cocktails for visitors to enjoy.

Visitors to this pool and cafe can enjoy soaking up the sun, taking a dip in the pool and enjoying something great to eat and drink. They’re open from Tuesday to Sunday and host a number of fun, trendy events each week.

Mapungubwe Hotel

The Mapungubwe Hotel can be found on 50 Marshall Street, Marshalltown.

This hotel has a conveniently-situated deck pool from which visitors can enjoy the sunshine and splash around in the pool. While this is not a pool in which visitors can work on their strokes, it’s perfect for cooling off.

Make sure to visit the poolside restaurant – it keeps the good food coming to guests who wish to soak up the sun with a tasty drink in hand.
