Bright Stars Gauteng, a youth mentorship programme which pairs trained adult mentors with vulnerable youth to walk their journey of life with them, will hold this session ahead of the mentor training session for citizens of Gauteng to come and discover how they can play a role in transforming the life of a youngster.
The programme will provide ordinary members of the public with a simple way that they can play a powerful role in the transformation of the youth.
“Our mentorship programme pairs an adult mentor with a youth and they spend just one hour a week together,” said Ruth dos Santos, Bright Stars programme manager.
“This is often all it takes to transform a life and give hope for the future and different options to a life of crime, which becomes an inevitability when [the youth] have so little support, opportunities and decision-making tools.”
Volunteers who are interested in becoming mentors are encouraged to visit the Bright Stars website and register to attend the information and orientation session to help them decide if they are ready to commit.
Prospective mentors can also work through the orientation presentation online in their own time if they are not able to attend the session. Applicants will have the opportunity to attend one of two training workshops where they will be equipped to serve the youth and feel empowered to bring about transformation.
