Man arrested for raping friend’s lover

ALEXANDRA - An Alex man is in police custody awaiting trial for raping his friend’s lover.

An Alex man is in police custody awaiting trial following the alleged rape of his friend’s girlfriend.

Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, said the man was arrested after he allegedly presented himself to the police accompanied by his brother following the incident.

Maphakela said the man is said to have raped the 25-year-old 8th Avenue resident at a house in Phase 1 where she, her boyfriend, two other male friends and the accused had been drinking from midnight to the early hours of 27 September.

Maphakela said the woman reported that at 4.30am, she fell asleep on a couch, with her boyfriend sleeping on another couch and the two friends sleeping on a bed. However, she did not know where the accused slept.

She claimed that when she awoke at 5.00am, she found the accused on top of her, raping her, after he had removed her pants and underwear while she was asleep. She is said to have screamed, asking the accused what he was doing. Her screams woke up her boyfriend and the two friends.

The accused is said to have apologised and begged the woman not to lay charges against him as he had a child to look after. The suspect is said to have then followed her to her home, still begging her. He was later accompanied by his brother to the Alex Police Station where the rape was reported and he was arrested.
