Two men in custody for robbery and hijack charge

ALEXANDRA - Two men were remanded in police custody by the Alexandra Magistrate Court for a case of car hijacking and robbery.

Two men were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for a case of hijacking and robbery.

The case will be back in court after police investigations are complete.

The court heard that on 29 June at about 9.30am, the complainant, who is a chef at a Woodmead restaurant, was driving a black Opel Corsa bakkie to Sandton to bank R45 000. The victim’s vehicle was bumped from behind by another car allegedly driven by the two accused.

When the victim stopped to inspect the damage and talk to the occupants of the other car, one of the accused alighted from their vehicle and allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and ordered him back into his car. The accused allegedly got into the victim’s car and ordered him to drive towards Alexandra while his co-accused followed. The victim said he was dropped off on the way and the two drove off in both cars with the money.

The complainant reported the robbery and hijacking of his car, which had a tracker. Police patrolling in Alex Ext 7 found the car that same evening parked on the side of the road with the two men inside. They were arrested, but the money was not found. The car was returned to the owner.
