Toyota greens Minerva

ALEXANDRA - As part of the National Arbor Week celebration, Toyota South Africa Motors partnered with Food and Trees for Africa to plant vegetables and fruit trees at Minerva Secondary School.

As part of National Arbor Week celebrations, Toyota South Africa Motors partnered with Food and Trees for Africa to plant vegetables and fruit trees at Alex’s Minerva Secondary School and Khula Sizwe Primary School in Thembisa.

The veggie gardens at the schools will provide food for the children and their families through the schools’ feeding schemes.

“Assisting the communities in which we operate has always been a priority for Toyota,” said Calvyn Hamman, senior vice-president at Toyota South Africa Motors.

“In this instance, we believe that by uplifting these two schools, we will create a sustainable food source, not only for the pupils but for the greater community as well.”

He said the project would provide the schools with all the necessary resources needed to plant, tend and care for the veggie gardens, including training for the faculty members, gardening tools, plant materials, as well as mentoring and coaching after the completion of the planting.

Toyota head office has also challenged its dealers to do the same for disadvantaged communities in their area. “Toyota has the biggest dealer network in South Africam, and if we can each make a difference in one community, our collective effort will show our commitment to greening South Africa as well as reducing our carbon footprint,” Hamman said.
