Man skips bail, found in police detention

ALEXANDRA - A man who skipped bail granted by the Alexandra Magistrate Court for a case of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in 2014 will reappear in court after being found in police detention for another crime.

A man who skipped bail granted by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for a case of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition last year, will now reappear in court after being arrested for another crime.

The man was being detained in Johannesburg Prison, this time for a case of aggravated robbery with an illegal firearm.

He had committed his first offence with an accomplice, Mtheto Nene who had served his sentence. The two had been arrested by Bramley police in the early morning of 31 March last year while walking on a street in Marlboro. This after a tip-off from a member of the public was received by police about suspicious looking people walking in the area.

Police found the men in possession of a semi-automatic weapon with the serial number filed off and loaded with 16 live rounds, and a pistol with its serial number intact and loaded with eight bullets. Both failed to produce firearm licences resulting in their arrest.
