Man awaits sentencing after allegedly slitting child’s throat with lid of a can

ALEXANDRA - A man in his mid twenties is awaiting sentencing by the Alex Magistrate’s Court for the attempted murder of his girlfriend’s daughter.

A man in his mid-20s has been remanded in custody awaiting sentencing by the Alex Magistrates’ Court for the attempted murder of his girlfriend’s daughter.

Police investigations revealed that when he committed the crime, he already had a warrant of arrest issued for a murder and three rape cases allegedly committed in Reiger Park some time ago.

The man from Boksburg committed the attempted murder in February while visiting his girlfriend who lives in Ex 7. When he got there he found the girlfriend with her daughter’s father and, unnoticed, took the child who knew him. He then took her to an isolated spot and slit her throat with a lid from a tin can.

He then left the child who survived, covered in a blanket. Strangers found the child and called an ambulance which took her to the hospital. The child is said to have moved to Limpopo to live with the parents’ relatives.

A legal expert said such cases of child abuse and molestation were concerning in that jilted men abused children’s trust and victimised them as a way of causing pain for their female partners.
