Youth urged to take their destiny into their own hands

JOBURG - An Alex youth has made an impassioned plea to other youngsters in the township to take their destiny into their own hands.

Dipuo Chauke (25) said as a young person in Alex, it pained her to hear many of her peers complaining about what the government should do for them, such as giving them jobs and transporting them to school. This while they sat at home, congregated on street corners, and did not take charge of their lives.

“Today, I say to you, don’t wait for anyone to change your life,” she said. “Be in control of your fate and take charge of your life. You were born to win, although to be a winner you must plan to win, prepare to win and expect to win.”

She urged the youth not to make excuses when they failed to achieve anything, but to focus on carrying out ideas that would lead to positive changes in their lives.

“Don’t compare your progress with that of others. We all need our own time to travel our own distance. Good, better, best, never let it rest until your good is better and your better is best,” she concluded.
