According to Alex Cluster spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the suspect allegedly shot into the shack from outside and when he heard no screams from the victims, he entered the shack and mowed them down before disappearing. It is unknown if the suspect took anything.
Maphakela appealed to the public to inform the police on 10111 or to contact acting Alex Station commander Colonel Nhluvhuko Zondo on 079 136 1023 if they know of the suspect or suspects in this crime.
Meanwhile, Maphakela said on the afternoon of 16 August, police acting on a tip-off arrested a man in his mid 30s who resides in 13th Avenue for possession of three unlicensed pump action shotguns and 58 wrist watches. He will appear in court for possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of suspected stolen goods. The guns will be tested to check if they were used to commit any crimes.
Maphakela added that other crimes committed during the week and weekend which resulted in arrests included a man who pointed his licensed gun at another person, a suspect for housebreaking and theft, six men for possession of dagga, seven men for drunk driving, and 13 prostitutes. He said all of them were due in court this week.
