Mpact employees go back to school for a day

ALEXANDRA - Mpact employees went back to school for a day to establish a vegetable garden and worm farm to promote sustainable livelihoods at Zenzeleni Primary School in Alex.

Formerly Mondi Packaging South Africa, Mpact Limited’s employees recently went back to school for a day to create a vegetable garden and worm farm at Zenzeleni Primary School in Alex.

This was part of the company’s Mandela Day activities meant to promote sustainable livelihoods in schools and surrounding communities.

The event was in celebration of the 2015 Back to School for a Day for Mandela Day initiative of the Adopt-a-School Foundation, which took place in disadvantaged schools countrywide.

Mpact employees teamed up with environmental non-govermental organisation Green Beings to build an organic vegetable garden, install a worm farm for soil conditioning and for optimum plant growth, as well as a drip-line irrigation system to support the school’s feeding scheme.

The employees worked well together with the school groundsmen, who will be responsible for the garden’s future maintenance. The groundsmen and pupils will receive regular training from Green Beings on the care of the garden to ensure its sustainability.

Mpact CEO Bruce Strong, said his company was determined to make a difference in the lives of the communities it touches.

“We hope that our involvement, today and in the future, will make a significant difference in the lives of the pupils, the community and the teachers.”
