Maslow Hotel warms up Alex with soup

ALEXANDRA - One of Johannesburg’s most disadvantaged communities was treated to soup, linen and blankets to help fight the winter chill.

One of Johannesburg’s most disadvantaged communities was recently treated to soup, linen and blankets to help fight the winter chill.

In celebrating its successful pop-up soup kitchen, Sun International’s Maslow Hotel once again visited the people of Alexandra, where the concept was initially launched on 25 June.

The pop-up soup kitchen has travelled across townships and informal settlements in Johannesburg and its surrounds to provide hearty and nourishing meals for disadvantaged communities.

Maslow Hotel general manager, Johan Scheepers said, “As part of our continued commitment to our corporate social investment projects, we hope our pop-up soup kitchen has added some cheer and warmth to those most affected by the cold.”

The project forms an integral part of the Maslow Hotel’s Winter Wonderland experience – aimed at making one of the year’s coldest months more tolerable.

The hotel’s executive chef, Jason Millar, expressed his excitement at being involved in the pop-up soup kitchen. “For many members of these communities, this soup has served as their only substantial meal for the day. I’m privileged to be able to make that one meal a magnificent one.”

The kitchen draws to a close on 31 July and has been assisted by The Maslow’s in-house guest transport services, Copper Sunset, who sponsored a vehicle and a driver to transport the pop-up soup kitchen trailer around specific areas in Johannesburg where hunger is prevalent.
