High-jackers nabbed before getting any victim

ALEXANDRA - A tip off to the police by the public stopped four Tsutsumani men from fulfilling their mission when they were arrested while still scouting for vehicles to highjack.

A tip-off from the public has prevented four Tsutsumani men from fulfilling their alleged hijacking mission when they were arrested while scouting for potential victims.

The men have appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court and are awaiting sentencing after further investigations are concluded.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela said the four suspects were arrested at 10am on 10 July at the intersection of Vincent Tshabalala Road and the N3 highway on- and off-ramps.

Ramotshela said after spotting the men, police conducted a search. One suspect was found to be in possession of a firearm with a magazine that had five live rounds. Ramotshela said the firearm was linked to one reported stolen from a man whose vehicle had been hijacked last month.

Ramotshela said when quizzed, the man with the gun alleged that they took the hijacked vehicles to another person in Klipfontein.

According to Ramotshela, the police went to the area in Rabie Ridge, a section of Klipfontein, and found a silver Hyundai with false number plates which had been reported as stolen from Randburg in January last year. Police also went to an informal settlement in the same area where they searched a shack and found an assortment of items suspected to have been stolen in other hijackings.
