Cycle tour of hope returns to Sandton

SANDTON - Making the trek from Clarens to Johannesburg all in the name of charity, the Rays of Hope’s Cycle Tour of Hope is set to return with a bang this year.

The three-day cycling event, hosted by the Hurlingham-based charity organisation, will take place from 23 to 25 October, and will see cyclists take part in a 365-km cycle to raise funds for Rays of Hope outreach programmes in Alexandra.

Jennifer Adams, chief executive officer, expressed excitement at the impact the fundraising event will have on Alex residents. “We are hoping to raise R1 million this year and are excited at the prospect of increasing our impact in Alexandra,” she added.

Adams added that the funds raised would go towards improving the lives of many people through a network of nine projects that benefit the community.

Two smaller cycling events are also scheduled to take place on 15 and 22 August, with both set to begin at 9am until late.

For those not participating in the cycle tour, Adams highlighted other opportunities to get involved in including volunteering, cash-in-kind donations and donating non-perishable food.

“Individuals can get involved by tutoring children, coaching a soccer team, donating bicycles or a cycling kit, funding, working in a vegetable garden, teaching and doing crafts with grannies and even providing matriculants with work experience,” she added.
