Bramley police give back for Mandela Day

BRAMLEY - THE Bramley police took a break from fighting crime and gave back to the local community by donating a variety of foods and blankets to the residents of the disadvantaged Stjwetla informal settlement in Marlboro on 17 July.

Social crime prevention co-ordinators of the Bramley police Constables Nkele Ramalotso and Gerald Masemola, with the help of sector managers and the Bramley Youth Desk, handed out food parcels and blankets to the ecstatic residents of Stjwetla who were elated by their presence.

Ramalotso said the donation formed part of the Bramley police’s 67 minutes contribution for Mandela Day, which the country will celebrate on 18 July.

Community leader Michael Ngobeni expressed gratitude towards the generous donation made by the Bramley police who had gathered on the street to hand out sweets and biscuits to a joyful group of children.

Ngobeni said, “This contribution is very important to our community. The children here come from very poor families and some of them have not had anything to eat for a while before this donation.”

He added that the Mandela Day donation would give many of the children within the Stjwetla community hope while giving them something to eat.
