ALEXANDRA - Alex Magistrate Court has remanded two 19 and 22 year old youths in custody awaiting sentencing for a case of armed robbery.

Alex Magistrates’ Court remanded two youths in custody for a case of armed robbery.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela said the youths who were 19 and 22 years old, were arrested for the offence committed at a local shop on 8 July.

They are alleged to have approached a shop owner who was unpacking stock from a car. When the owner went inside, one of the youths followed him. The owner then ran out of the shop and was allegedly hit on the forehead with a gun by the other suspect. The suspects took his wallet which had R2 500 in it, and airtime vouchers to the value of R1 500 and R3 500 in cash from the shop.

Ramotshela said the youths ran off, and the public alerted the police of the incident and the whereabouts of the youth. The suspects were then picked up at their homes nearby, and the stolen items and firearm were recovered.

Ramotshela thanked the public for their assistance.
