Kit sponsor seeks Alex school for partnership

JOBURG - Mille, the official kit sponsor of the Danone Nations Cup, is looking for a school in Alexandra to partner with for some of the clothing brand's corporate social investment programmes.

Mille, the official kit sponsor of the Danone Nations Cup, is looking for a school in Alexandra to partner with for some of the clothing brand’s corporate social investment programmes.

Crown Mines Johannesburg-based Skye Distribution and Greystone Footwear boasts brands such as Mille, Brentwood, Samson, Lyle & Scott and Cutrite, which is a combination of both clothes and footwear.

Mille marketing manager, Nyakalo Ndlovu, said despite their two-year kit sponsorship of the Danone Nations Cup, the clothing brand was also heavily involved in community upliftment programmes with various schools in Tembisa and Durban.

“We ask schools to tell us their sport of choice, be it football, rugby or whatever, and we then kit school teams. If we can identify a school in Alexandra, this will be an opportunity for us to get involved in that township as well,” Ndlovu said.

Ndlovu was speaking on the sidelines of the Danone Nations Cup national finals at the Reiger Park’s WJ Clements Stadium in Ekurhuleni, which was won by Johannesburg’s Bree Primary School.

The Bree Primary School team will head to Morocco later in the year to represent South Africa in the world finals of the cup, and this will a third time that the school team reaches the finals.

They first qualified for the world finals in 2008, but were knocked out in the group stages. They qualified the following year in which they made history by beating all before them to be crowned Danone Nations Cup champions in 2009.

“We would like to wish them all the best of luck in the coming world finals and hope they can go all the way to bring the trophy back to South Africa and also write another chapter of their cup history,” Ndlovu said.
