Alex police are investigating a case of common assault laid against a man by his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend who lives on Lebogang Street, Far Eastbank.

Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela, said the incident occurred on the evening of 15 June. The woman was watching TV in her house with the front door slightly open to enable a neighbour to come in to collect an iron.

She said she heard a knock at the door, and before she could answer, her former boyfriend barged in and allegedly asked her to have sex with her, but she claims to have refused. The man is said to have pushed her onto a bed while allegedly punching her on the forehead with his fists. The woman claimed that she pushed the man, who was drunk, away and out of the house and then locked the door. It is unclear whether or not the woman was raped.

The outcome of the investigations will determine if and when the matter will go to court.
