Woman hijacked after visiting local charity in Alex

ALEXANDRA - A Good Samaritan was hijacked in Alexandra soon after dropping off parcels to a charitable institution in the Eastbank section.

A Good Samaritan was hijacked in Alexandra soon after dropping off parcels at a charitable institution in the Eastbank section.

Three armed men hijacked the woman at a traffic circle on Alfred Nzo Street in Tsutsumani on 15 June at about 4pm. She was driving a white Nissan Quashquai.

Speaking to Alex News, the victim said when she got to the circle there was a woman pedestrian blocking her way, and in no time three men brandishing guns approached her vehicle and demanded her phone and jewellery.

As she was not wearing any jewellery, the men then ordered her out of the car before fleeing in it. The woman was not hurt in the incident.

She was assisted by street vendors and eyewitnesses who called the police. A woman from Soweto assisted her to get back to the charity organisation Ratang Bana. A while later, the police called her to say they had found her car between Florence Mposho and Joe Nhlanhla streets. The car had been stripped of its number plates and her bag was missing.

The woman said the police drove her to her home in Sandton to fetch the spare keys for her car. “The officers were such gentlemen and I am so grateful for their assistance and appreciation of my predicament, even going out of their way to drive me home to fetch the spare keys,” she said.

According to residents in 14th Avenue, hijacked vehicles are often taken to the area between Florence Mposho and Joe Nhlanhla streets to remove tracking systems before being taken away.
