African Union delegate robbed on M1

Police have deployed a team of detectives on a manhunt for the suspects posing as police officers who robbed an AU delegate on the M1 Marlboro turn-off.

The victim is a 55-year-old Nigerian citizen who was travelling with his driver from OR Tambo International Airport.

He was attacked by suspects driving a Hyundai sedan with an unknown registration number and the suspects took US$5 000 (almost R62 000) and R700 before they drove away.

Police provincial spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said, “Suspects posing as police officers stopped them and demanded money. After the robbery, they drove away. Police have launched a manhunt for them.”
