Take A Girl Child to Work campaign a success

JOBURG - WITH the likes of Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela participating in empowering young girls, the Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work initiative was a success.

This year’s campaign, Dream, Believe, Achieve, saw an impressive 520 companies and government departments take part in the initiative by inviting pupils to spend a day at their workplace – all aimed at exposing them to the various opportunities available.

Miss South Africa, Liesl Laurie, an ambassador for the campaign said she was honoured to be selected as spokesperson.

“I am passionate about women and South Africa, and firmly believe that the country will become a thriving nation when the women of South Africa thrive,” she said.

“Cell C is investing in people and they see potential in young girls, and are giving them the ability to become their ultimate best.”

Her words were echoed by managing executive of the Cell C Foundation, Suzette van der Merwe who highlighted the importance of empowering young girls through such initiatives.

“We believe that women can be vibrant contributors to the economy and leading job creators for South Africa, and by empowering young women to think about the future… Cell C believes that this possibility will become a reality,” she said.

The campaign has been running for 13 years and is targeted at Grade 10-12 pupils.
