Pay your Tekkie Tax and support your cause

JOBURG - It's the time of the year when South Africans are encouraged to kick off their high heels and school shoes to don a comfy pair of tekkies for a great cause.

Epilepsy South Africa is encouraging schools, businesses and everyone in between to take part in Tekkie Tax again this year and support an organisation of their choice.

Tekkie Tax is an initiative that sees the public paying a small fee of R10 to wear a pair of tekkies on the day, with the proceeds going towards a charity organisation of your choice.

The small R10 donation, in addition to being donated to a good cause, buys you a sticker in support of Tekkie Tax as well as a funky pair of shoes laces for you to wear on your favourite pair of tekkies.

Participants can choose from organisations including CHOC Cancer Foundation, Epilepsy SA, Childcare SA, CANSA and many other non-profit organisations that will greatly benefit from the donations.

You can choose a sector to which your Tekkie Tax can be donated, including animals, children, education, basic family care or disability.

The initiative has also seen a number of influential South African personalities coming on board, including the likes of rapper Jack Parrow and TV presenter Sade Giliberti.

Last year, the campaign grew by 114 percent from the previous year.

Tekkie Tax has also released that they managed to raise R7.2 million over the past two years, with R4,8 million being raised last year alone.

The campaign benefits 16 of the biggest and most accountable National non-profit organisations in the country, representing more than 1 500 local organisations.

Put your best foot forward and take part in Tekkie Tax on 29 May.
