Initial report: A fourth suspected has been picked up in connection with the murder of Mozambican national, Emmanuel Sithole (35), who was stoned and stabbed to death on an Alex street on 18 April.

It is understood that the fourth suspect will appear alongside his colleagues also suspected to have been involved in the brutal killing of Sithole, a street vendor who was selling sweets and cigarettes at the corner of Alfred Nzo Street and 1st Avenue.

It is alleged that four men took some cigarettes from his stall and left without paying. When Sithole followed them to ask for money, they are alleged to have turned around, poured beer over him, produced knives and stoned and stabbed him.

He was rushed to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital where he later died. The four suspects will make a brief formal appearance in court before the expiry of the 72 hours following their arrest, and the matter is expected to be remanded for another date for a bail hearing.

More details will follow as an Alex News reporter will be at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to attend the first appearance of the suspects.
