The South African Communist Party has condemned the recent xenophobia attacks that have rocked the country and have received local and global condemnation.

Speaking at the sideline of a solidarity gathering for Venenzuela at the Altrec Sports Complex, Vhonani Masindi, chairperson, Linda Jabani District, said the attacks should never be allowed to happen again. “They are machinations of the capitalist and imperialist system which puts the poor in conflict with each other.” He said they struggled throughout their lives for a meagre income which kept them perpetual dependents of the systems.”In this instance, the system preyed on brothers and sisters from elsewhere for cheap labour and in the process created strife with locals whose fight is for descent wages.” He said the non-locals found these as opportunities against harsh conditions where they come from.

Masindi said the attacks, which unfortunately pitted Africans against each other, was a challenge that governments should address to alleviate poverty and to create peace and prosperity in the region and continent by creating conditions that promote descent work and better living arrangements.
