ALEXANDRA - The Alex Community Police Forum has called for a more proactive approach to apprehending criminals said to be known in the community.

The Alex Community Police Forum has called for a more proactive approach to apprehending criminals said to be known in the community.

This after the arrest of three men for the horrific murder this weekend of Mozambican national Emmanuel Sithole. The men are believed to appear in court tomorrow.

One of the suspects is still at large and police have issued a R100 000 reward for his arrest.

Forum chairperson Bulldog Rathokolo said the quick arrest by the police from a tip off was indicative of the public’s collaboration with security agents.

Rathokolo said the co-operation could be enhanced through the public effecting citizen’s arrests without inflicting harm to suspected criminals in instances where crimes happened in their midst.

Rathokolo added that the community’s proactive action would also be an expression of unity and collaboration with security agencies and the forum in defence against criminal activities camouflaged as xenophobia. He urged residents to work more closely with the forum and the police at all times as a declaration against being ruled by criminals.

Sithole’s murder has been widely condemned, with the DA commending the police for the arrest of his killers who they [DA] say were part of the xenophobia attacks against foreign nationals.

The party urged government to investigate and protect shops of foreign nationals from the few it said created the anarchy between locals and immigrants.
