Young starlet takes on the music industry

JOBURG - Ashlinn Gray, a Johannesburg-based artist, is making waves in the music industry and is gaining major attention from the entertainment industry's most elite – and she's only 17 years old.

Gray dropped out of school last year to pursue her passion for singing – a risky move on behalf of the young artist – but it is no doubt paying off, with the likes of Wackhead Simpson giving her a much appreciated heads-up.

“With the right people around her, she will go really far,” said the radio personality and professional prankster.

Excelling in drama from a young age, she attempted to expand her talent and began singing too.

Her singing ability did not come naturally and she practiced day and night to get her voice into the best possible shape that she could, before taking on the big bad music industry.

She enlisted the help of close friends and fellow musicians Greg Jorden and Wesley Ayliffe, and together they brought her music to life.

Battleships is the first single from the songstress – an up-tempo pop number with a background story to inspire.

She already performed this song to a huge audience at the Caxton Awards ceremony earlier this year, and received a heartwarming response to her overall performance.

“This song is about a journey of conquering negativity and working hard at making dreams become reality,” said Gray.

“Battleships really is about the highs and lows of winning and losing; a never ending war that continues as long as you’re up for the fight; believing in yourself and not surrendering to those who don’t believe in you.”

She aspires to become an internationally-recognised singer and actor and with the tremendous start she’s made, she’s well on her way to getting there.
