Women lead theatre revival

ALEXANDRA - Three women are using their feminine touch to revive theatre and the arts in Alex.

Three women are using their feminine touch to revive theatre and the arts in Alex.

In the past the township has produced many globally acclaimed artists, musicians, poets and sports personalities, and Olivetree Theatre is hoping to revive the glory days.

The brain child of Ntshieng Mokgoro, the theatre has engaged law graduate Joy Moyo as project manager and accounting graduate Jessica Ndaba to do the marketing. Moyo and Ndaba will be promoting the theatre to the community, businesses and other agencies as a future entertainment hub.

Moyo said theatre and acting have been her primary love since childhood. “I was part of the university drama company and grabbed the opportunity to be at Olivetree to be close to the profession,” she said.

Moyo added that she enjoyed the creative energy of the job and hopes to inspire up and coming artists.

Ndaba hopes to expose the public to a convenient and affordable theatre. She wants to inspire children to take acting classes and attend poetry festivals.

“I am self-driven, and enjoy every moment and aspect of my work,” she said. “It is made easier by a familial environment which has made me a more open and confident person.”
