Alex police hunt armed robbery suspect

ALEXANDRA - Police have mounted a manhunt for a second suspect that was involved in an armed robbery of two brothers at the corner of 4th Avenue and Josias Madzunya Street.

Alex police have mounted a manhunt for a second suspect that was involved in an armed robbery of two brothers at the corner of 4th Avenue and Josias Madzunya Street.

A 31-year-old suspect is already behind bars and his accomplice is still at large. According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the two brothers were walking down Josias Madzunya Street when they were approached by the two suspects, who are well-known to them.

One of the suspects, armed with a firearm, cocked the weapon and ordered the two brothers to raise their hands, but they refused. The second suspect then approached them and wanted to know why they were refusing to obey the order.

The suspect allegedly searched one of the brothers and took out a knife which he used to stab him several times on his right cheek before emptying his pockets of R1 200 in cash and a cellphone. Alex News has the names of the two suspects.

The armed suspect also searched the other victim, taking his cellphone as well as R100. The victim that was stabbed had to be rushed to the Alex Clinic, where he was given 15 stitches to his cheek.

While the hunt intensifies for the second suspect, Maphakela said his arrested partner in crime will appear soon in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of attempted murder and armed robbery.
