Switch off during Earth Hour

JOBURG - It's that time of the year again that we give something back to earth by turning off the lights for just one hour.

Earth Hour is a concept encouraged around the world to help the environment by turning off all the power in homes and businesses, in hopes that we can change the climate change situation.

On 28 March, all people around the world are encouraged by the World Wildlife Foundation to turn off their lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm – uniting people in protecting the planet.

It’s not as difficult a task as it seems and is really a small price to pay in order to protect the planet from harmful CO2 emissions that come from burning the fuel to create electricity.

These CO2 emissions are severely harmful to the earth’s atmosphere, which when depleted will force climate change and ultimately the loss of life and habitats.

In South Africa, especially, it should be no difficult task to keep the lights off, and frankly Eskom could forcibly place many homes in certain areas in darkness.

All households around earth should follow Eskom’s lead and turn off all electrical appliances during Earth Hour and maybe the human population can begin to undo the terrible damage that has been inflicted on the environment.

It’s also the perfect opportunity for families to get together and talk, sit around a bonfire and bond, even if just for an hour.

Make sure to be part of the difference on 28 March during Earth Hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
