Police and CPF raid Realogile Secondary School

ALEXANDRA - Alex police last week raided Realogile Secondary School in a school search programme.

Alex police last week raided Realogile Secondary School in a school search programme.

The programme is conducted by the police as a routine and through a partnership with the Department of Education to rid schools of contraband, drugs, alcohol, firearms, others weapons and undesired items.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela said a team of officers and members of the community police forum searched the children, bags, classrooms, toilets and other places for an hour but found nothing unwanted. He said this may be indicative of children getting serious in their school work. He said the searches will continue unannounced as part of a long-term programme to ensure safety at schools.

At the beginning of the year, principal Joe Mashitoa said the searches would be instituted periodically as a measure to improve teaching and learning. He said this after the school noticed poor results in last year’s matric results.
