MMC pleads for public cooperation

ALEXANDRA - MMC for Transport Christine Walters pleads for the public's cooperation with the city when it implements development programmes to better their lives.

MMC for Transport Christine Walters asked for the public’s co-operation regarding development projects around the city.

Walters was speaking at the official launch of the construction of a bridge on Grayston Drive over the M1 freeway linking Alexandra and Sandton.

Walters pleaded with the public to bear with the city during the construction of the project and also other development programmes. Acknowledging the inconvenience caused during the 18-month construction, she said the long-term benefits of the bridge outweighed the inconvenience. The bridge will have a feel and look of the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Braamfontein. The project will include mixed-use developments with interchanges for private motorised transport, public bus lanes, and dedicated lanes for cyclists and pedestrian walkways.

Her other concern was the high level of vandalism and theft of manhole covers and other infrastructure at construction sites which endangered all road users. “This act frustrates officials implementing development programmes and law abiding residents who appreciate developments taking place in the city.”

She requested residents to be more respectful of others and of public facilities and amenities.
