Socially aware beauties wanted for Alex pageant

ALEXANDRA - Miss Alex will be up for grabs soon but only for those able to display a mix of BBC - brains, beauty and compassion.

The title of Miss Alex will be up for grabs soon, but only by those able to display a mix of BBC – brains, beauty and compassion.

Past pageants were said to have been devoid of real meaning and importance to the youth. This time, organisers promise to achieve much more, with contestants expected to vie for stardom as ambassadors of Alex’s beauty, virtues and vibe. The event is also planned to be a permanent feature of the Alex landscape.

Levy Ledwaba of the organisers, Creative Minds, a non-governmental organisation said the event would centre on social consciousness and cohesiveness of the community. It would suit contestants who were able to show off their worthiness through programmes on wellness, social engagement and upliftment, entrepreneurship, education and community work.

“Two hundred single female contestants in the 18 to 24-year age group, and in Grade 11 to tertiary, are expected to enter the initial stage,” said Ledwaba. “Fifty outstanding ones will advance to the semifinals and 10 of the most deserving will get to the finals where the runners-up and the queen will emerge.”

He added that aspirants could complete forms available at libraries and Alex FM radio station and deposit them as instructed on the form. Auditions will be conducted on 28 February at Sankopano Community Centre where entrants will be interviewed and have their pictures taken. Then there will be workshops on public speaking, self-branding, beauty and hair care, and business skills.

The selection will commence based on entrants’ performances in a series of activities and presentations leading up to the finals scheduled for August.
