7 EFF members reportedly injured after removal from Parliament

SOUTH AFRICA - It is reported that Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said seven members of the party were injured during the forced removal from Parliament during the State of the Nation Address.

The forced removal came as an order from National Speaker Baleka Mbete when the EFF members refused to be seated and continued to question when President Jacob Zuma would “pay back the money” for the upgrades to Nkandla.

Outside parliament, Malema reportedly said South Africa was a police state and it was reported that it seemed that pepper spray had been used on the EFF members between the time they were escorted from the chamber to the outside of the Parliament building.

The DA’s Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane reportedly said they believed the proceeding which lead to their departure from Parliament during the address was a violation of the constitution.
