KwaBhekilanga High School will be among the first schools to see the National Children’s Theatre play, It’s Your Life, which is an HIV/Aids awareness drama that will tour schools in Gauteng.

The production has been made possible by a grant from the American embassy. It started at 12.30pm at KwaBhekilanga High School on 5 February before moving to other areas in Johannesburg.

As part of an awareness campaign, the theatre will be visiting primary and high schools in Soweto, Alexandra, Diepsloot, Sebokeng and surrounding areas. The main objective of the campaign is to increase the level of sexual knowledge and awareness among the youth so that they can make informed choices about their own attitudes and behaviours.

It’s Your Life addresses HIV awareness in a dignified and professional manner. This production, while sensitive in its presentation, is performed in a manner that allows pupils the opportunity to ask questions and discuss relevant issues.

Children from Alexandra’s Abangani eNkosini were invited to the press screening of the show, which was attended by staff from the American Consulate in Johannesburg and other invited guests and media.
