City seeks digital interns

ALEXANDRA - The city council is recruiting 1 000 youths with information technology (IT) background for its new digital intern programme.

The city council is recruiting 1 000 youths with an information technology (IT) background for its new digital intern programme.

Three of them will be awarded a 10-month IT course under its educating digital interns programme and the others will choose from courses in leading network engineering solutions, website design and development and fibre optic development.

Launching the programme, mayor Parks Tau said it was part of the foundation phase of developing a smart city and would go a long way in improving the city’s IT skills and expertise. “It provides a superb opportunity for some of our brightest minds to learn the skills they will need to be more employable in future. We are equipping the youth to be Joburg’s innovative professionals and entrepreneurs,” Tau added.

The internship is open to matriculants residing in the city who succeeded in mathematics and science, or have a one or two-year diploma, or have high level digital aptitude.
