Thieves break into Alex butchery

ALEXANDRA - An unknown number of thieves broke into a butchery and helped themselves to meat and other items they could lay their hands on.

An unknown number of thieves broke into an Alex butchery and helped themselves to meat and other items.

The owner of Corner Fresh Lifestyle Butchery, located at the corner of Rev Sam Buti Street and 12th Avenue next to Sankopano, said the thieves broke the doors and windows to gain entry into the butchery between 2am and 3am on 21 January.

Once inside, the thieves helped themselves to some meat which was in the cold-room, a plasma flat screen TV, a cash register with R1 000 and some beverages, including lights which were attached to the ceiling.

The butchery owner said this was not the first time thieves had broken or attempted to break into his shop. “I have been a victim of this on an annual basis. This is the fourth time since 2012 where they gained entry through the roof of the butchery,” he said. The owner estimated the stolen items to be worth more than R12 000.

He said he believed the thieves had some form of transport on which they loaded all the stolen items. The victim said he had opened a case of burglary and theft at the Alexandra Police Station.
