The new school on the block in Alexandra, Kgololo Academy is ready for its grand opening next week.
The academy on 2nd Avenue will start with 20 children in pre-Grade R and 30 in Grade R. The school is the brainchild of Waahida Tolbert Mbatha and according to her the initiative has attracted much public interest.
Mbatha said there was a need for quality education and facilities in the township, and said the academy’s teaching methods would be non-authoritarian, dignified and respectful of the children despite their young age.
She encouraged the teaching staff to use their employment to advance their own career development. “You can only grow and develop by seeking feedback on your performance and personal attributes,” she told the staff.
Mbatha said she would like to see the academy grow, eventually enrolling children up to Grade 12, but this would mean relocating to bigger premises within Alex.
