Bryanston Country Club gives back

BRYANSTON - In an effort to engage more with the local community and give back, 52 youngsters from the township of Alexandra were treated to a day of sportsmanship and fun at the Bryanston Country Club.

The fun-filled event was hosted as a way for the club to give back to the less-privileged children.

According to Paul Leishman, general manager at the country club, the programme came as a result of the club’s partnership with charity organisation Rays of Hope.

“Every year, the club selects a charity to work with for the duration of the year and this year, one of our members suggested Rays of Hope and we went for it,” he said.

Leishman added that the club would host three events with the children during the year, all aimed at giving back and potentially growing the initiative.

He added that it was the club’s way of doing something and getting more involved with the local community.

“For us as the club, it’s a way to feel good and give these children a unique experience that they may never have had,” he said.

Bertha Muchadayi, project manager at Rays of Hope, expressed joy at hosting an event of this nature as it was a way to give the children a fun experience.

“All of the children here have grown up in underprivileged circumstances and so to take them out of Alex and give them a fun experience is a good thing,” she said.

She added that such outings would allow the children to build strong bonds and relations; this is something lacking in their lives.

The event included a tour of the club, exposure to sports such as golf, a visit to the golf clinic and an introduction to tennis.

The event took place on 12 January in Bryanston.
