KwaBhekilanga is still the top achiever

ALEXANDRA - KwaBhekilanga Secondary School in the Far Eastbank has done it again.

KwaBhekilanga Secondary School in the Far Eastbank has done it again.

The formerly troubled school has managed to top the Alex schools matric results for the second year in a row.

The school achieved a 94 percent pass rate (down 3,6 percent from 2013) followed by Alex High School with 84 percent (down 3,7 percent from 2013). Eastbank High School was next with 69,2 percent (down 15,6 percent from 2013), and Minerva Secondary had a 64 percent pass rate (down 20 percent from 2013).

Realogile remains Alexandra’s most struggling school with a pass rate of 59 percent (down 10 percent from 2013). The late principal of the school, Dumisani Mbatha had managed to turn around the culture of the school in 2012, but he died last year.

A lot is expected of his replacement, Dingaan Kubheka, who was Mbatha’s deputy for many years.

KwaBhekilanga principal, Jubera Selowa attributed the school’s success to hard work, and praised teachers and pupils for their commitment. “The children committed themselves to night studying in the school and weekend sessions as well,” he said. “All this contributed to their success.”
