Children are guaranteed food security

ALEXANDRA - Students from child headed and single parent households received a pleasant holiday and Christmas gift which will assure their food security over the festive season.

Students from child-headed and single-parent households received a pleasant holiday and Christmas gift which will assure their food security over the festive season.

At Realogile Secondary School, there were 150 students who received food hampers in carrier bags from Citizen One, a subsidiary of the Adamsee Group. The donation was food hampers containing samp, flour, rice, tea bags, oil, milk, oats, beans, sugar, peanut butter, soup, jam, tuna, spaghetti and other items.

They affirmed the company’s evolving relationship with the school which will lead to other inputs following a year-long process of needs assessment for other educational requirements.

Handing over the hampers, Zaid Cassim said while assessing the needs, they also did small work like repairing broken windows which will be followed by bigger works which may include repairing school furniture, upgrading classrooms and supplying essential equipment. “Children are the future and any contribution to their learning environment is essential to ensure they receive quality education to prepare them for their various roles in the interest of the nation.”

Acting principal Joe Mashitoa said the donation was God sent to the children and will protect them and their siblings from having a miserable festive season.” The items provide for a balanced meal and the carrier bags can be used for other household needs.” Mashitoa added that the donation was the beginning of more and better things to come from the company to the school’s improvement, from infrastructure to teaching in the classroom. “The needs analysis will determine the exact requirements and budget.”

Parents expressed appreciation of the donation. The items they said, will augment the limited groceries they are able to get per month from their meagre income. In all, the items were a gift for the children most of who they said performed well in the examinations. They added that the donation will spur the children to do better next year and decried those who dropped out of school for risking their lives to an uncertain fate of drug addiction and other anti-social behaviour..
