Both fun and misery for children

With schools officially closed and businesses and industries shut down for the festive season, children can’t wait for the fun and games to get into full swing.

Their parents and older siblings also can’t wait for their turn of the fun and rest in readiness for next year’s gruelling tasks.

On the last day, schools in Alexandra experienced huge turn outs of anxious children and parents coming to collect school reports and to get confirmations into next year’s upper grades.

Some of the beaming faces unfortunately returned home in misery after receiving unpleasant reports. This will put a damper on their fun and games during the holidays. At Realogile Secondary School, the students who were asked about the results said they had passed, but this couldn’t be confirmed as the reports were private property. Those not so lucky could be guessed by body language and forlorn faces as they trudged back home in silence. Advise by education experts and school psychologists is that they should try again next year and do so with more determination and commitment.

Other children didn’t waste time to get on the fun. Hordes of them tracked to the recently reopened Eastbank Swimming Pool where they expected to cool down while others enjoyed swinging on the swings.
