Ratang Bana runs impressive fundraising drive

ALEXANDRA - Ratang Bana Future for Children an NPO is on a fund raising drive using one of its innovative products.

Ratang Bana Future for Children, a non-profit organisation, is on a fund raising drive using one of its innovative products.

The organisation, based in Eastbank, supports orphans, vulnerable children, the elderly, unemployed women and men and is a beneficiary of limited grants from government, embassies and other local donors. The grants fall short of the total budget required for its range of services which are changing lives of the most vulnerable in the area.

Other donors provide for their food needs and they also have a vegetable garden and recycling project to supplement their income. Some of the proceeds from the garden and from the donors are shared with other poorly resourced organisations.

The women also produce wonderful all-weather blankets called Bana blankets. They are currently producing a summer blanket product which coverts into camping and picnic mats and bags. The products are colourful, light and portable for any occasion. Ingrid Moloi, organisation founder, thanked a good Samaritan for donating the material which is also provided for the winter production. She said the unique product sells for R120 and the income raised supports the organisation’s operating costs and is used for stipends for the unemployed women. She said they can also produce for orders.
