ALEXANDRA - A man who beat up his errant girlfriend and sought refugee under a shrub of trees has been arrested by the police.

A man who beat up his girlfriend has been arrested.

According to the 25-year-old victim, she arrived home at her Nigeria Street house in Tsutsumani. Her boyfriend asked her why she had arrived home late from work.

She explained why but her boyfriend grabbed a broom and beat her until she managed to run out of the house. She stopped a patrolling police van and explained what had happened.

The police offered to transport her to the station to open a case of common assault. She then noticed her boyfriend hiding in some bushes and pointed him out to the police.

He was arrested and will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of common assault.
