Buccleuch pays tribute to the late Senzo Meyiwa

BUCCLEUCH – The members of Buccleuch’s Christian Foundation Fellowship Church held a special memorial paying tribute to the life of former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa on 29 October.

Meyiwa, who was a Buccleuch resident, was shot  in Vosloorus township on the East Rand on 26 October and was declared dead on admission to hospital.

There was a sombre but celebratory air at the memorial as local Buccleuch residents and congregation members prayed and sang hymns.

Representative of the Buccleuch Residents and Rate-payers Association Tebogo Sithathu said, “On behalf of the Buccleuch residents we would like to thank Senzo for [being] a constant inspiration.”

Reverend Peter Antony Gichero of the Christian Foundation Fellowship said that Meyiwa had left a great legacy that everyone can look up to.

The congregation received a message from Meyiwa’s widow, Mandisa Mkhize-Meyiwa, who said, “This is a very sad moment in my life. I have lost my husband, my best friend and the father to my daughter.

“Senzo was a great father to all his children, and it is heartbreaking to know that they have to grow up without his loving presence… May his beloved soul rest in the hands of God himself.”
