Life sentences for male-on-male rape
ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Magistrate's Court this week sentenced three young men to life for gang raping another man in prison.
The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court this week sentenced three young men to life for gang-raping another man in prison.
Magistrate Mr Gideon Schnetler found the men, Tshepo Sebetlela [19], Thabiso Kguwe [21] and Wiseman Seboa [21] guilty of raping a fellow inmate at Leewkop Prison on 29 November last year. The victim testified in the case in April.
Sebetlela and Kguwe are currently serving prison sentences for other rape cases, while Seboa is in for robbery.
A legal expert said the court regarded rape, murder and treason as serious crimes with no likely chance for parole of convicted persons. He said only in very exceptional circumstances of either illness or good behaviour will the convicted expect to be released on parole.
