The initiative formed part of Boston Media House’s annual corporate social investment programme, Growing Green – Helping Plant Tomorrow’s Meal. Media liaison and Boston Media House student Ziphozethu Khambule said, “The students chose a vegetable garden because it is sustainable and serves as a learning ground for the pupils… Because there are many children that go to school hungry and cannot focus or concentrate. With this project, the aim was also to break the stereotype of young people that don’t care about the community or goodwill.”
The students and pupils planted carrots, spinach, onions, cabbage, potatoes, and tomatoes. Khambule added, “The event would not have been a success without the kind donations of seeds and seedlings by Montrose Nursery.” She said Rand Water provided water for the day.
“We had party packs that were donated by a mother of one of our student’s. The funds for the food, overalls and decorations were raised by the Boston Media House public relations students through campus activations for the whole month of September.”
