Sacred Heart College dominates athletics

JOBURG - The Sacred Heart College athletics team finished the athletics season on a high at the B League Inter-High meet on 2 October, finishing first overall.

The Sacred Heart College athletics team finished the athletics season on a high at the B League Inter-High meet on 2 October, finishing first overall.

There were eight schools competing at the meet, which saw the college promoted to the ‘A league’ in 2015. Congratulations to George Mokoena for winning the prestigious senior trophy, the Victor Ludorum, presented to the most successful athlete on the day.

The team also competed at the Inter-Catholic meeting on 25 September, finishing second overall after De La Salle College. Mbali Khumalo had an outstanding meet, breaking three Inter-Catholic records in the U/17 girls category for shot-put, discus and javelin.

Sacred Heart College thanked its coaches and managers, Cindy Niken, Henry Du Toit and Mirek Baran, who were assisted by Sacred Heart College alumnus, Tshepo Moloi, who worked closely with the sprinters.

“The team’s success is largely due to their commitment to training throughout the season,” said Peter Augustin, head of sports and physical education at Sacred Heart College High School.

“Over the holiday period, there were more than 40 pupils at the school training and more than 70 regulars on the training track throughout the season. The results show for themselves and the pupils should be extremely proud of their efforts.”
