This is hard to beat

ALEXANDRA - Children at Ntokozweni Early Childhood and Community Centre were treated to a stimulating exercise when a corporate contributed a garden project to the centre.

Children at Ntokozweni Early Childhood and Community Centre were treated to a stimulating drumming exercise.

This was when staff of Standard Bank and Meals on Wheels Community Service visited the centre to develop a vegetable garden, and Drum Tribe, an organisation that uses music for motivation and team building, took the opportunity to engage with the children.

The exercise entertained the three to five-year-old children who engaged with the drums zealously. The centre’s principal Flora Manaka said the activity was a worthy contribution to the children’s daily play and stimulation exercises. “Children learn by playing and in the process others realise their talents which can be nurtured into professional careers in adulthood,” she said.

The centre which started in 1944 is one of the oldest in Alexandra. It started as community centre where former President Nelson Mandela learnt his dancing and boxing skills. Also, it was the base for organising community resistance against forced evictions.
